Barnabas1040.com is a new way to do missions. We are dedicated to helping Independent Baptist Churches in the 10/40 Window. It is our conviction that we need BOTH traditional missionaries and national pastors working together if we are going to be effective in reaching people with the Gospel. The traditional model of a foreign missionary directing a local church, meeting in facilities built with foreign money, following foreign patterns of worship, financed by foreign money is not what God intended when He gave the Great Commission. It is our conviction that churches can and should be indigenous. An indigenous church is, by definition, self- propagating, self-supported and self-governed.
We believe the call of a missionary is different than the call of a pastor. Our goal is to come alongside missionaries who have a heart to reproduce themselves by training national pastors who can reach their own people. We provide funds on a short term basis for supporting and facilitating church planting by nationals under the guidance of the IB missionary in country. Our purpose is not to replace the missionary, but to empower him to send out “faithful men who shall be able to teach others also.” 2 Timothy 2:2
Our focus is on the part of the world commonly referred to among a mission strategist as “The 10/40 Window”. When Jesus died on Calvary, He died for the entire world. The people in the 10/40 Window are not more loved or special to God than any other part of the world. The reason we focus on the 10/40 Window is that it contains the countries that have had the least opportunity to hear the Gospel.
Consider this map designed by the Joshua Project.
A man named Luis Bush was looking at a similar map and statistics, and realized that the majority of unreached people are in an area within 10 and 40 degrees latitude from Western Africa to Eastern Asia. Luis drew a box around this area and called it the “10/40 box.” However, his wife, Doris, suggested he call it the 10/40 Window because it is a window of opportunity.
This area has two-thirds of the entire world’s population, but it is well over 90% unreached with the Gospel. Not only that, but only about 4% of Christian missionaries are working there. This is also because this area is resistant to the Gospel and has well-established religions and governments contrary to the Christian message. Most of the world’s Muslims, Hindus, and Buddhists live within the 10/40 Window.
We partner with IB missionaries who are able to regulate the distribution of funds to local men whom they have personally trained and discipled.
Barnabas1040.com operates as a non profit 501c3 organization so all gifts are tax deductible.
We are seeking IB churches that will partner with us to help church planters or projects in the unreached and limited access countries of the 10/40 Window.
