Imprisoned For The Faith

July 27, 2017

Dear Friends,

EXPANDING INTO BURMA:

A few weeks ago my wife and I were able to make a trip into Laos, Myanmar (Burma) and Thailand for the purpose of expanding the Barnabas1040 ministry of church planting. I was able to preach for 6 of our national pastors and vet several more new church planters. As a result we will immediately add 4 new church planters in Thailand and Myanmar. This will be our first entry into Myanmar which means we are now operating in 10 Asian countries by the grace of God!

Crossing the Border into Myanmar

Not a week goes by that I do not hear from our church planters who are winning souls and building churches in difficult areas. All of these men and their wives are serving in areas that are either considered “restricted access” or are held firmly in the grip of false religions that are difficult to penetrate with the truth of the gospel. Not all of the men and women we work with have been imprisoned for their faith, but many have. I am including a partial testimony of one of the men that we just added to our Barnabas1040 family. I am taking out his name and location for security reasons. I have left the testimony exactly as he sent it to me except that I have removed his name, his location and the portion of the letter that discusses his church planting. He has already started the church without our support. Our financial and prayer support will enable him to dedicate more time to soul winning and discipleship:

“Hello my is _______, I am 27 years old, below is my family’s picture, (picture removed) I have two sons, the first is 2 years and 7 months old, the second son is 1 month old. I knew Jesus when I was 17 years old, and after that the police came and arrested me, and my friend and my pastor and put us in the prison, because believe in Jesus Christ. The first time they put us in the Jail at the village, we stayed there for two weeks, the police told us if you want to get out from the jail you need to stop worship Jesus Christ and tell your parents to bring money for them, But we didn’t want to go out yet, because we want the story of Jesus Christ spread out so others people might know the thing that happened to us, then the police they bring us to the prison of the district, we moved there, a lot of people in the jail asked us, Why are you here? What’s wrong with you? So we told them that because we believe Jesus Christ, so we used this opportunity to share the Gospel to them, after staying there for two months, one prisoner become a Christian, in that jail they locked our legs with the wood (we couldn’t move for many days and I do not know how to explained clearly), but the suffering cannot do anything to us, in the jail they called us the musician because every evening we sang the Christian songs, they said that the song help them to have hope. At that time I was studied in high school, after I went out from the jail I decided to go to Bible college instead of going back to school, because I want to serve God…”

Again, not everyone we support has been imprisoned for the faith, but everyone we support has the kind of character that you read in this testimony. I am humbled when I preach or teach for these men of God. Thank you for standing with us in prayer and finances as we serve them.

From Barnabas1040 Through the Missionary (holding bag) To the Burmese Nationals

HOME FRONT:

Most of our time is not spent in the villages and jungles of S.E. Asia. Normally Gayle and I are attempting to be a blessing in the Chinese city we call home.  As I have mentioned before it is a city of several million people, of whom the vast majority have never heard a clear presentation of the gospel. We have some type of outreach or discipleship meeting 5 nights a week. These range from in home private presentations of the gospel, to Language Exchanges where people meet to practice English, to public ladies book clubs where my wife and daughter gather with young professional women who are hungry to learn how to improve their lives. These gatherings are always focused on creative ways to present the gospel. We have already seen people come to Christ through the various gatherings that we either sponsor or participate in. We also spend a few hours each day studying Mandarin Chinese. I am finding that learning a new language is more difficult at 67 than it was at 34, but I praise God for His grace and the people’s patience!

A Partial View Of The Millions Living In Our City

I do not want to end this report without expressing our most sincere gratitude for your prayers and financial support. We know that it is only through a partnership with God’s people and churches that we are able to accomplish anything for our Lord.

You are helping us punch holes in the darkness of the 10/40 Window. The work is slow, and we do not always see immediate results, but together we are truly making a difference in this needy part of the world. Gayle and I thank God every day that He allows us to have a small part in this ministry.

We love you and are praying for God’s richest blessings to rest upon you.

God bless you,

Dwight Tomlinson
