One Year Anniversary
Dear Friends and Partners in Ministry,
I am sending you this update on the 1 year anniversary of arriving in China where Gayle and I now make our home. We arrived in China on April 6, 2017.
As I look back over the past year, I am amazed at all that God had done. My heart cries out in solidarity with the Psalmist who said: “Many, O Lord my God, are thy wonderful works which thou has done,…, they are more than can be numbered”. Psalm 40:5
The past year has been filled with His blessing, provision, guidance and protection! On the one year anniversary of arriving in Asia, I want to report just a portion of the miracles we have seen.
Protection: We moved here not knowing what to expect. We just knew that this was how God was leading and the Scriptures were confirming the promptings of the Holy Spirit in our hearts. There were well meaning voices of those “in the know” advising us to operate our ministry from America or anywhere except China because (they warned,) we would be shut down quickly. Of course, we do not know what the future holds, but we firmly believe we will be here as long as God wants us here. Every day is a gift from God and as of today, we have enjoyed 365 precious and beautiful gifts.
Expansion of Barnabas1040: When we arrived in Asia our ministry was financing 17 national church planters in 8 countries. Today, that number has doubled to include at least 34 families and 3 Bible colleges in 12 countries. Each month our ministry sends out $4,675.00 to national church planters, and that number is increasing as quickly as we are able to identify and vet the people we are helping.
New Countries Opening: We are serving those who serve on the front lines of the battle for souls. In the last year, by God’s grace, we have entered Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar. In addition to these new countries, we have expanded our church planting footprint in India, Laos, Thailand and China.
Open Doors of Ministry in China: The Lord is opening some amazing doors in China. We came here knowing no local people, yet one short year later we are privileged to minster to so many different people. I want to be discreet in what I say, but every day my wife and I thank God for the open doors he has granted to us in this great country. For example, last Sunday was Easter and I was invited to preach to a congregation of over 200 adults on the resurrection. This is a legal church that placed no restrictions on my message. I was able to exalt the Lord Jesus as freely as we would have done if we were in the USA. I have been asked to return and preach on the coming of the Holy Spirit to empower the church. Again, there are no restrictions on the message.
In addition to these open doors, there is almost no limit to those around us who have open and hungry hearts to know of the things of God. Many are eager to come to our home and learn of the gospel.
In closing, I want to say thank you to those who pray for and support this ministry financially. We know that we are in this together, serving as partners in the greatest enterprise in the world.
Together we are shining the light of the gospel into some of the darkest places on our planet. We are helping those who are fighting on the front lines, bringing the hope of the gospel to those whose families have been held in darkness for centuries.
None of this would be possible without the grace of God and the faithful partners who hold the ropes in prayer and giving.
Thank you and God bless you!
